Attendance
Policy
Attendance
of at least two classes per week is required for satisfactory
progress. These two classes are considered standing appointments.
If a student cannot attend one of the standing appointments
during a particular week, the student or parent must cancel
that lesson to be able to make it up at a later date. Please
call to leave a message if you need to cancel a standing class.
Repeated failure to call will result in postponing your belt
test.
Uniform
Policy
All
students training in the Dojo are required to adhere to specific
uniform protocals. When participating in a traditional class,
an all white gi with rank belt and appropriate patches or
a Black Belt Club gi is required. For the Black Belt ranks,
specific color requirements apply. Uniform tops or tee shirts
are optional and must coincide with the belt color. When training
outside of class in the Dojo or participating in a non-traditional
class, proper attire is required. Groin protection is considered
part of the uniform and should be worn at all times during
training. See your instructor for any questions relating to
uniform policy.
Sparring
Gear Policy
The
following is required for all students sparring: All students
under Green belt, and all Junior Students under Junior Black
Belt are required to wear safety headgear, gloves, boots,
groin protection, mouthguards, shinpads, forearm pads, and
chest/body protection. After the above belt levels, students
may, at their own discretion, shed the shinpads, forearm pads,
and chest/body protection. However, the staff here at AKKA
holds the firm position that if there is a piece of equipment
available to help insure safety in a given context, it should
be considered carefully. Afterall, this is a self-defense
training. See your instructor for specific style and color
requirements.
Manuals
and Videos
Due
to the complex nature of the material taught in Chinese Kenpo,
repetition and practice are essential. Both manuals and videos
are available for all ranks. Videos are invaluable for pattern
exactness, and reinforce the live instruction received in
class. The manuals contain step-by-step instruction for each
of the techniques, as well as the underlying philosphy of
the respective belt ranks. Students are strongly encouraged
to purchase these educational aids to help them with their
individual practice. Black Belt Club students receive a complete
manual as part of their membership, but must purchase the
videos seperately.
